WHY THE UK REMAINS THE BEST PLACE TO SCALE PURPOSE-DRIVEN INNOVATION

Charlotte Ridley founded Memorify, a UK-based start-up which combines neuroscience, psychology and technology to create a platform which helps people organise and reconnect with their most meaningful memories. Five years on from inception, it has grown to a team of 13, secured strategic partnerships with Kodak Moments and backed by Innovate UKM. Ridley discusses how the UK’ s combination of world-class talent, research, innovation funding and capital markets makes it one of the best places to build globally competitive technology companies.

UK ' s technology sector, the conversation often focuses on valuations, funding rounds and exits. Those things matter, of course. But for founders building businesses designed to provide meaningful solutions to human problems, a different question matters even more: where can you find the talent, support and long-term ecosystem needed to turn an ambitious idea into a globally competitive company?

UK remains one of the best places in the world to build a purpose-driven technology business.
One of Britain ' s greatest strengths is its ability to bring together expertise from different disciplines and sectors. The UK ' s network of universities, research institutions, start-ups and established businesses creates an environment where collaboration across fields is both possible and encouraged. For emerging companies, this can make it easier to access specialist knowledge, build partnerships and test new ideas in ways that might be more difficult elsewhere.
Our own experience reflects the value of that ecosystem. Developing new technologies often requires insights from a range of disciplines rather than a single area of expertise, and the UK ' s depth of talent makes those connections easier to build. For founders looking to grow their businesses, there is a clear lesson in the importance of
THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES THERE ARE FOR ORGANISATIONS OF DIFFERENT SIZES AND SPECIALISMS TO WORK TOGETHER, THE STRONGER THE FOUNDATIONS WILL BE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF BRITISH BUSINESSES.
