Why did you choose to work with Stampede?
We’ ve done social media with people who have got their own companies. We’ ve done marketing, and I’ ve seen it, and it doesn’ t work. The first thing I would say is everybody’ s got a brilliant video that gets loads of people ticking. Yes, great. Viewed it. Great commentary. But what it doesn’ t do, it doesn’ t bring people back to eat and spend money. I learned that a while back. It’ s prime for a restaurant to bring people back, and that starts off with management, with the consumer. And two, is to understand what the consumer wants, and that is you following up every time after they’ ve eaten, after they’ ve drunk, every time, and looking at the stats and understanding their lifestyle and why they’ re coming back. Stampede came at a time that I was looking for that.
Yes, it does cost money. Yes, we haven’ t got the money, but I’ m willing to go all in while I’ m working full time three months and work with Stampede and see if this can help me grow.
One of their tools that work really well for us is being on the iPad in the restaurant, looking at people’ s profiles that are coming for a reservation, what they’ ve eaten before, how many times they’ ve been in, what they’ ve drunk, how much they’ ve spent, and following up on that with a message going, thanks for coming in. And the workflows started doing that. For example, why didn’ t you turn up? Let us give you a discount next time.
I can honestly say that right now, it’ s working for us better than anything I’ ve ever worked with. The communication of working on a personal basis has been more beneficial than anything our company has ever experienced. Stampede has given me that visual and handson experience.
You’ ve mentioned five new stores in five years. But what’ s next for Starfish Loves Coffee?
I’ ve got business plans for so many different projects. The thing about Starfish is I want to open up shops that are based on Starfish but doesn’ t necessarily have to be a brunch house, for example, Starfish Loves Tapas, Starfish Loves a Pump Room. And the whole point is, I want to open up and use it as a brand, where it becomes many different shops, a different approach to what you’ re experiencing. I want a few more restaurants, and I want people to experience the best atmosphere possible. �
