EDITOR’ S NOTE

ELLO AND A WARM WELCOME to the 56th

H edition of Intelligent SME. tech. On this month’ s front cover, we feature Bella Acland, Founder of Soul Kitchen, which is based in the UK. The idea for Soul Kitchen came to Acland during her final year at university, when she found herself relying on convenience food more than she wanted to. She found herself thinking about the uninspiring instant soup aisle, where the offerings were often salty and artificial. Acland thought about combining the power of nutrient-dense vegetable powders with something familiar and nostalgic, which is where the idea of Soul Kitchen came from.

Acland said:“ Our soups are made with real, raw powdered vegetables, are free from the top 14 allergens and taste like real food.” She goes on to discuss which technology works well for her business, how she is growing the brand and how she found the funding to start up the company. In this month’ s Editor’ s Question, I ask what’ s your approach to mergers and acquisitions – when is the right time to buy vs. build? Four experts took the time to give their views, starting on page 20.
