New McAfee study reveals concerns of small businesses in today ’ s cyber landscape

McAfee Corp , a global leader in online protection , has announced findings from its Global Small Business Study which surveyed the owners and IT decision-makers at small businesses across six countries to discover their thoughts and behaviour around cybersecurity .

The study , conducted in collaboration with Dell Technologies , reveals cybersecurity is one of the greatest concerns of small businesses globally , with 73 % of organisations saying it is one of their biggest risks or vulnerabilities .

And these fears are justified . The data shows that cyberattacks are on the rise , as 44 % of small businesses have experienced a cyberattack and 17 % have experienced more than one . For 67 % of the organisations that experienced a cyberattack , the incident occurred in the last two years , indicating that the threat of cybercrime has become more prevalent .

Survey reveals a decline in average bonus handed out for SMEs

A work perk that ’ s sure to both spark motivation and start the new year strong is by rewarding employees with a bonus .

Just under half ( 49 %) of respondents are giving their employees a bonus this year , while over two in five ( 43 %) are not .

The sector also plays a part , as just over three in five

( 61 %) respondents in the finance sector are giving their employees a bonus this year , compared to over two in five ( 45 %) of those in the healthcare sector .

The survey revealed the average pre-tax amount bonus given to employees in 2023 / 24 was £ 5,265.81 , which is £ 292 less than the average amount of £ 5,557.53 given in 2022 / 23 .

Barclays relaunches Cambridge coworking space for climate tech start-ups

Barclays has relaunched its Cambridge Eagle Lab with a renewed focus on helping high growth climate tech start-ups to connect , grow and scale . The site has undergone a significant retrofit , with the goal of reducing its carbon emissions by 90 % compared to 2018 .

The newly-designed space features increased desk capacity for up to 130 people and a 75 % increase in collaboration space , allowing a more flexible layout for meetings , events and networking . It also features a dedicated area to showcase the climate tech technologies and businesses that Barclays is supporting through its partnerships , Unreasonable Impact ventures , Bridge programmes and Sustainable Impact Capital investments .
