Extra hours could be spent on tax returns by UK ’ s SMBs each year
One in five UK sole traders have never heard of Making Tax Digital ( MTD ) for Income Tax Self-Assessment ( ITSA ), despite the government announcing it seven years ago , a new report has found .
Research by Coconut has revealed that a potential 1 million extra sole traders would now be willing to pay for accounting services to support them with the changes coming via MTD , which the majority ( 61 %) said they found confusing , complicated and a major concern in terms of time and cost .
Surveying sole traders across the UK to fully understand their views , Coconut ’ s report , Making Tax Digital and sole traders : the £ 360m opportunity for the accounting industry , highlights the support that accountants , FinTechs , industry bodies and government need to provide sole traders to ensure they are fully prepared for the upcoming MTD changes .

A new ‘ Green Credit Score ’ is being launched to deliver cheaper finance to environmentally responsible SMEs across the UK .
The green lending solution is being developed by one of the UK ’ s largest credit risk consultancies , 4most , who has won an SBRI government funded award from Innovate
UK to rollout its eco-driven proposition to businesses nationwide , working in partnership with CleanTech advisory firm , Meckon , and international FinTtech lender , Swishfund .
The ‘ Green Credit Score ’ will seek to boost climate action , while delivering cheaper finance to greener SMEs by using environmental responsibility as a key indicator of credit worthiness .
The project itself will deliver a comprehensive data set , credit risk analysis and scorecard , which 4most will make available to lenders across the UK , including credit reference agencies and credit autodecision-making platforms .
PPRO , a leading provider of digital payments infrastructure , has integrated Gojek ’ s GoPay e-wallet on to its platform , taking it a step closer to offering complete Indonesian market coverage .
